Fabric calculator
Cross-stitch fabric size calculator
Divide the stitch count by your fabric's count to get inches. This does it for both sides, then adds a margin so you have room for a hoop and framing.
Finished design

25 cm × 18 cm
Fabric to cut
16 in × 13.1 in
41 cm × 33 cm, with 3 in on every side
Design width by fabric
How wide a design of each stitch count comes out, before margins.
| Fabric | 50 stitches | 100 stitches | 150 stitches | 200 stitches |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11-count Aida | 4.5 in | 9.1 in | 13.6 in | 18.2 in |
| 14-count Aida | 3.6 in | 7.1 in | 10.7 in | 14.3 in |
| 16-count Aida | 3.1 in | 6.3 in | 9.4 in | 12.5 in |
| 18-count Aida | 2.8 in | 5.6 in | 8.3 in | 11.1 in |
| 28-count evenweave, over two | 3.6 in | 7.1 in | 10.7 in | 14.3 in |
| 32-count linen, over two | 3.1 in | 6.3 in | 9.4 in | 12.5 in |
Choosing a margin
- 3 inches on each side suits framing and leaves room for a hoop or Q-snap.
- 2 inches is enough for a small piece finished in a hoop.
- For cushions or anything sewn up, allow the seam plus at least an inch.
Evenweave and linen
Evenweave and linen are usually stitched over two threads, so 28-count works out like 14-count Aida and 32-count like 16-count. Stitching over one doubles the count and halves the size, and needs a single strand.
